Target Information
Mouse liver X receptor alpha (LXRα, NR1H3) is a 54-kDa nuclear receptor predominantly expressed in mouse liver, adipose tissue, and macrophages. Activated by endogenous oxysterols, it forms heterodimers with retinoid X receptor (RXR) to regulate transcription of genes involved in cholesterol efflux (ABCA1, ABCG1), lipid metabolism, and inflammatory responses. Critical for murine cholesterol homeostasis, reverse cholesterol transport, and macrophage foam cell formation, it modulates metabolic and inflammatory pathways linked to atherosclerosis and fatty liver disease. Dysregulated activity associates with dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome. As a key mediator of lipid metabolism and inflammation, mouse LXRα is a critical target for studying metabolic disorders, atherosclerotic pathobiology, and lipid-modulating therapeutics.
