Mouse 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 10 (HSD17B10) is a mitochondrial oxidoreductase that catalyzes the interconversion of active androgens/estrogens with their weaker 17-keto forms. Using NAD+ as cofactor, it metabolizes hydroxysteroids, fatty acids and xenobiotics within the matrix space. The enzyme participates in mitochondrial RNA processing by stabilizing LRPPRC, and its dehydrogenase activity modulates neuronal steroid tone. HSD17B10 is expressed across brain regions, liver and reproductive tissues, presenting a dimeric short-chain dehydrogenase fold. Highly conserved between species, this versatile protein offers a reliable marker for mitochondrial abundance and metabolic integrity in murine histological and biochemical analyses.
