Target Information

Mouse regulator of G-protein signaling 5 (RGS5) is a 19 kDa cysteine-rich GAP whose N-terminal amphipathic helix docks onto activated Gαq, while a C-terminal tail binds PDZ scaffolds at pericyte and vascular smooth-muscle membranes. A solvent-exposed "GAP" loop (aa 120-135) houses the catalytic asparagine unique among RGS subtypes, presenting a conformational epitope that survives aldehyde fixation. Polyclonal antibodies targeting this loop trace native RGS5 in retinal vessels, tumor stroma, and renal mesangium, yielding crisp mural-cell rims and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to RGS2 or RGS4.
