Target Information

Rat Matrix Extracellular Phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE) is a secreted factor expressed in osteocytes, odontoblasts, and selected epithelia. Its acidic, serine/aspartate-rich domain binds hydroxyapatite, inhibiting mineral deposition while coordinating phosphate homeostasis. MEPE localizes to bone matrix, renal tubules, and periodontal ligament, serving as a scaffold for collagen fibrils and a reservoir for regulatory phosphates. Antibodies against MEPE enable precise mapping of mineralizing fronts and quantitative assessment of matrix remodeling in rat skeletal, dental, and fibrotic disease models.
