Target Information

Bovine bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) is a secreted disulfide-linked homodimer that binds type I (ALK-2/3/6) and type II BMP receptors, initiating SMAD1/5/8 phosphorylation and osteogenic transcription. It targets mesenchymal progenitors, driving their differentiation into osteoblasts and chondrocytes while also promoting extracellular matrix mineralization. The mature 114-aa ligand presents a solvent-exposed β-sheet epitope conserved across bovine, human and rodent sequences-ideal for antibody generation. Anti-BMP-2 immunoreagents enable precise localization of osteoinductive signals in bone grafts, cartilage repair constructs and ectopic calcification sites without cross-reacting with other TGF-β superfamily members.
