Target Information
Mouse ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is a 53-kDa pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues-with elevated levels in rapidly proliferating cells (e.g., intestinal epithelium, bone marrow, embryonic tissues). It catalyzes the rate-limiting step in polyamine biosynthesis, converting ornithine to putrescine, a precursor for spermidine and spermine. These polyamines regulate critical cellular processes: DNA replication, RNA transcription, protein synthesis, and cell cycle progression, supporting tissue growth, development, and repair. Inducible by growth factors, hormones, and cellular stress, it maintains polyamine homeostasis in physiological and pathological contexts (e.g., wound healing, tumorigenesis). As a key mediator of cell proliferation and tissue remodeling, mouse ODC is a critical target for studying developmental biology, cancer, and regenerative medicine.
