Target Information
Rat plasma selenoprotein P1 (Sepp1) is a 42 kDa secreted glycoprotein whose N-terminal His-rich region captures redox-active selenium, while ten selenocysteine residues distributed along two domains deliver the micronutrient to kidney, brain, and testis. A solvent-exposed "SCUG" motif (aa 240-254) between the second and third selenocysteines forms a stable loop unique among selenoproteins, offering a conformational epitope that survives heparin clearance. Affinity-purified antibodies directed against this loop trace native Sepp1 in serum, hepatic sinusoids, and cerebrospinal fluid, producing single-band specificity on immunoblots and crisp endothelial staining with no cross-reaction to cytosolic Sepp2.
