Target Information
Rat natriuretic peptide receptor 3 (NPR3) is a 120-kDa transmembrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in rat kidney, vasculature, and adipose tissue. As a clearance receptor for natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP, CNP), it mediates ligand internalization and degradation, regulating circulating peptide levels and modulating natriuretic, diuretic, and vasodilatory responses. Critical for maintaining rat cardiovascular homeostasis, fluid-electrolyte balance, and blood pressure regulation, it counteracts excessive natriuretic peptide signaling. Dysregulated expression associates with hypertension, heart failure, and renal dysfunction in rat models, as impaired clearance disrupts peptide signaling cascades. As a key mediator of natriuretic peptide turnover, rat NPR3 is a critical target for studying cardiovascular pathobiology and developing therapeutics for cardiometabolic disorders.
