Mouse bleomycin hydrolase is a conserved cysteine aminopeptidase that removes the N-terminal methionine from nascent proteins and detoxifies the anticancer antibiotic bleomycin. Widely expressed in liver, kidney and brain, its cytoplasmic localization and broad substrate specificity make it a useful loading control and marker of proteolytic balance.
