Target Information
Mouse X-ray repair cross-complementing 5 (XRCC5) is a 70-kDa DNA repair protein ubiquitously expressed in murine tissues, with enriched levels in proliferative cells (bone marrow, intestinal epithelium) and germline cells. It forms a heterodimer with XRCC6 (Ku70/Ku80 complex), initiating non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) to repair double-strand DNA breaks (DSBs) induced by radiation, oxidative stress, or replication errors. Critical for maintaining murine genomic stability, cell survival, and immune receptor V(D)J recombination, it modulates DNA damage response pathways. Dysregulated expression associates with carcinogenesis, radiosensitivity, and immunodeficiency in mouse models. As a key mediator of DSB repair, mouse XRCC5 is a critical target for studying DNA repair mechanisms, cancer radiotherapy resistance, and genome-editing related therapeutics.
