Target Information
Rat Renal Tumor Antigen (RAGE, also termed CA IX in some species) is a cell-surface glycoprotein selectively expressed in renal proximal tubules under hypoxic conditions. It catalyzes hydration of CO₂ to bicarbonate, regulating intracellular pH and promoting tumor cell survival in acidic microenvironments. Its extracellular domain is released into circulation, providing a measurable indicator of renal hypoxia and neoplastic growth. As a specific marker of renal hypoxic stress, RAGE serves as an important target for studies of kidney tumors, ischemic injury, and pH-dependent tumorigenesis.
