Target Information
Mouse ferritin, light polypeptide (FTL) is a 21-kDa subunit of the ferritin iron-storage complex, ubiquitously expressed in murine tissues with elevated levels in liver, spleen, and macrophages. It forms heteropolymers with heavy chains (FTH1) to regulate intracellular iron sequestration, transport, and redox homeostasis, preventing iron-induced oxidative stress. Critical for murine iron metabolism, erythropoiesis, and immune cell function, it modulates iron availability for enzymatic reactions and cellular processes. Dysregulated expression associates with iron overload disorders, neurodegeneration, and cancer in mouse models, as impaired iron sequestration disrupts tissue homeostasis. As a key mediator of iron storage and redox regulation, mouse FTL is a critical target for studying iron-related pathobiology and developing therapeutics for iron metabolism disorders.
