Target Information
Mouse microfibrillar-associated protein 5 (MFAP5, MAGP-2) is a 25 kDa secreted glycoprotein whose N-terminal heparin-binding motif and C-terminal "MAG" domain bridge tropoelastin to fibrillin microfibrils, guiding elastic-fiber assembly. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 95-108) between the two domains folds into a β-hairpin unique among murine microfibril components, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after secretion and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native MFAP5 in aortic media, lung alveoli, and dermal extracellular matrix, delivering crisp fibrillar tracks and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to MAGP-1 or fibrillin-1.
