Target Information

Mouse glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an intermediate-filament protein uniquely assembled in astrocyte cytoplasm. It targets lateral association of rod domains to form 10-nm stress-bearing filaments that stabilize astroglial processes and ensheath synapses, blood vessels and the glia limitans. Its head-and-tail consensus sequences provide unique, species-restricted epitopes ideal for antibody generation; anti-GFAP immunoreagents enable specific labeling of astrocyte cell bodies and extensions in brain sections, primary cultures and tissue homogenates without cross-reacting with other intermediate filaments, offering a precise marker for astroglial identity and reactivity.
