Target Information

Rat epiregulin (EREG) is a 19-kDa secreted EGF family growth factor predominantly expressed in rat epithelial tissues (intestine, lung, skin) and activated immune cells (macrophages, neutrophils). It binds to EGFR (ErbB1) and ErbB4 receptors, triggering downstream MAPK and PI3K-AKT signaling cascades that regulate epithelial cell proliferation, migration, and barrier integrity. Critical for rat tissue homeostasis, wound healing, and mucosal immunity, it modulates inflammatory responses and tissue repair during injury or infection. Dysregulated expression associates with epithelial hyperplasia, inflammatory bowel disease, and tumor progression. As a key mediator of epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk and growth factor signaling, rat EREG is a critical target for studying inflammatory pathologies, tissue repair, and cancer therapeutics.
