Rat Ankyrin Repeat Domain Protein 1 (ANKRD1) is a cytoskeletal stress sensor that links the sarcomere to the sarcolemma in cardiac and skeletal muscle. It binds to titin, actin, and calmodulin, transducing mechanical stretch into downstream signals that modulate gene expression and hypertrophic responses. ANKRD1 is rapidly up-regulated by biomechanical overload, hypoxia, or injury, serving as an early marker of muscle stress. As a key mechanotransducer, ANKRD1 is an important target for studies of cardiac remodeling, muscular dystrophy, and mechano-dependent signaling.
