Target Information

Rat farnesoid X receptor (FXR, NR1H4) is a 59-kDa nuclear hormone receptor predominantly expressed in rat liver, intestine, kidney, and gallbladder. It is activated by endogenous bile acids (e.g., chenodeoxycholic acid) and exogenous ligands, forming heterodimers with retinoid X receptor (RXR) to regulate target gene transcription. Key functions include maintaining bile acid homeostasis, modulating lipid/glucose metabolism, and regulating intestinal barrier integrity in rats. Dysregulated activity associates with cholestasis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and metabolic syndrome. As a central mediator of bile acid signaling and metabolic balance, rat FXR is a critical target for studying hepatobiliary biology, metabolic disorders, and liver-protective therapeutics.
