Target Information

Rat platelet glycoprotein IX (GP9) is a 17 kDa type-I transmembrane leucine-rich protein forming a 1:1 complex with GP1bα, GP1bβ and GP5, creating the von Willebrand receptor that tethers platelets to injured vessels. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 45-58) between LRR4 and LRR5 folds into a β-hairpin unique among rat LRR proteins, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native GP9 in megakaryocyte membranes, circulating platelets, and atherosclerotic plaques, delivering crisp surface rims and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to GP1bβ or GP5.
