Target Information
MMP7 is a secreted zinc-dependent endopeptidase and the smallest member of the matrix metalloproteinase family. Unlike most MMPs, it lacks a hemopexin-like domain. It specifically degrades extracellular matrix components like proteoglycans, laminin, and elastin. Beyond tissue remodeling, MMP7 plays a critical role in activating cell surface factors such as alpha-defensin and TNF-alpha. It is frequently overexpressed in various carcinomas, where it promotes tumor invasion, angiogenesis, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), making it a significant biomarker in oncology.
