Target Information
Mitochondrial fission factor (MFF) is crucial for mitochondrial and peroxisomal fission. It facilitates the recruitment and attachment of the fission mediator, dynamin-related protein 1 (DNM1L), to the mitochondrial surface. In liver tissue, inhibiting mitochondrial fission has been shown to protect mice from obesity and metabolic decline induced by a high-fat diet, highlighting the significance of mitochondrial fission in maintaining metabolic balance. Additionally, the absence of MFF is linked to a decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and a reduced mitochondrial respiratory control ratio (RCR), indicating potential mitochondrial dysfunction. The role of MFF in cancer is also notable, as research indicates that overexpressing MFF can promote the formation of breast cancer stem cells (CSCs), whereas its loss can suppress CSC activity.
