Target Information
In mice, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is crucial for several vital functions, including the normal development of skin and hair, embryonic organ formation, nervous system development, and regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. Mice lacking EGFR often develop severe neurodegenerative diseases shortly after birth, characterized by widespread apoptosis in brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex, olfactory bulb, and thalamus. EGFR is also essential for skin and hair follicle development. Research indicates that mice without EGFR exhibit notable skin abnormalities, including impaired hair follicle development, sparse hair or complete baldness, and are often accompanied by skin inflammation and degeneration of hair follicles.
