Target Information

Platelet-activating factor (PAF), also known as PAF-acether or AGEPC (acetyl-glyceryl-ether-phosphorylcholine), is a potent phospholipid activator and mediator of many leukocyte functions, platelet aggregation and degranulation, inflammation, and anaphylaxis. PAF is produced by various cells, especially those involved in host defense. It is continuously produced by these cells but in low quantities. PAF is a pro-inflammatory lipid mediator involved in vascular and innate immunity-related processes by increasing vascular permeability, facilitating leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium and contributing to phagocyte activation.
