Target Information

Mouse aspartate aminotransferase (AST, GOT) is a 45-kDa dimeric enzyme ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues-with high levels in liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and kidney. It catalyzes the reversible transamination of aspartate and α-ketoglutarate, a key reaction in amino acid metabolism and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Existing as both cytosolic and mitochondrial isoforms, it maintains cellular nitrogen balance and energy homeostasis. Due to its tissue-specific abundance, it serves as a classic biomarker for mouse tissue injury (e.g., hepatocellular damage, myocardial injury). As a critical metabolic enzyme and injury marker, mouse AST is a key target for studying metabolic physiology, tissue damage mechanisms, and preclinical disease models.
