Target Information

Interleukin-5 receptor alpha (IL5RA) is a cell surface receptor integral to the survival, differentiation, and chemotaxis of eosinophils. It functions by forming a heterodimeric receptor with the CSF2RB subunit, which then binds to interleukin-5. Under unstimulated conditions, IL5RA interacts constitutively with JAK2. Activation of the heterodimeric receptor stimulates JAK2, leading to the activation of the JAK-STAT pathway. In mice, IL5RA is crucial for the maturation, activation, and recruitment of eosinophils (EOS) within the immune system. The function of IL5RA in mice can be explored through gene knockout techniques or pharmaceutical interventions. For instance, the development and functionality of EOS can be inhibited by neutralizing IL-5 or deploying specific antibodies.
