Target Information
Hypoxia Inducible Factor 1 Alpha (HIF1A) serves as a key transcriptional regulator of the body's adaptive response to low oxygen conditions (hypoxia). During hypoxia, it activates the transcription of more than 40 genes, including erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, vascular endothelial growth factor, HILPDA, and other genes that help enhance oxygen delivery or support metabolic adaptation to hypoxic conditions. In mice, HIF1A functions are extensive and intricate, impacting various systems like the cardiovascular, metabolic, bone, tumor, and nervous systems. Its specific effects vary based on tissue type, environmental conditions, and interactions with other signaling pathways. HIF1A is crucial in cardiovascular development and function. While studies suggest that the absence of HIF1A has limited impact on cardiac morphogenesis and adult cardiac function, it may impair cardiac function under certain conditions, such as chronic hypoxia.
