Target Information

Fetuin-B is a protease inhibitor essential for egg fertilization, crucial in preventing the premature hardening of the zona pellucida before fertilization. It likely achieves this by inhibiting the protease activity of ASTL, which mediates the cleavage of ZP2 and triggers zona pellucida hardening. Fetuin-B plays a vital role in the mouse fertilization process by inhibiting ovastacin activity, thereby maintaining the zona pellucida's permeability to allow sperm entry and successful fertilization. Female mice lacking Fetuin-B experience infertility due to the premature hardening of the zona pellucida. In mouse adipose tissue, Fetuin-B expression levels are closely linked to insulin resistance. Research indicates that Fetuin-B induces inflammatory responses in white adipose tissue and is inversely correlated with peripheral insulin resistance.
