Specifications
Target Information
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) possesses both glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and nitrosylase activities, contributing to its roles in glycolysis and nuclear functions, respectively. As a pivotal enzyme in glycolysis, GAPDH catalyzes the initial step by converting D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) to 3-phospho-D-glyceroyl phosphate. GAPDH is redox-sensitive and forms disulfide bonds under oxidative stress conditions. In mice, the function of GAPDH extends beyond its metabolic role in glycolysis, encompassing involvement in oxidative stress responses, apoptosis, and neurodegenerative diseases. Notably, disulfide bond formation and aggregation of GAPDH are thought to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of diseases such as Alzheimer's.
