Target Information
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) governs the development and differentiation of the thyroid gland by interacting with its specific receptor, the Thyrotropin Receptor (TSHR). Research has demonstrated that the TSH/TSHR signaling pathway is crucial for thyroid morphogenesis and gene expression in mouse embryos. For instance, while the thyroid gland of mouse embryos lacking a functional TSHR develops normally, the expression of iodine metabolism-related genes, such as sodium/iodine symporters and peroxidases, is significantly reduced. TSH also plays a role in regulating various physiological processes, including basal metabolism, growth and development, and emotional and cognitive functions. Beyond its role in controlling the secretion of thyroid hormones, TSH is also involved in bone metabolism.
