Target Information
Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (Cdkn2a) functions as a negative regulator of normal cell proliferation by strongly interacting with CDK4 and CDK6, thereby inhibiting their interaction with cyclins D and their ability to phosphorylate the retinoblastoma protein. In mice, Cdkn2a is extensively involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, metabolic regulation, tumor suppression, cardiac repair, and tissue aging. Together with p16Ink4a and p14Arf, Cdkn2a forms a vital tumor suppressor gene cluster. Research has shown that the loss of Cdkn2a facilitates tumor development and progression. For instance, in a mouse model, the simultaneous loss of Cdkn2a and Arf accelerates asbestos-induced mesothelioma, mirroring the molecular characteristics of human malignant mesothelioma.
