Target Information

The induced myeloid leukemia cell differentiation protein Mcl-1 homolog plays a crucial role in regulating apoptosis versus cell survival and is essential for maintaining viability, though not proliferation. It exerts its effects by interacting with various other apoptosis regulators. Isoform 2 of this protein exhibits antiapoptotic activity. In acute myeloid leukemia (AML) mouse models, knocking out the MCL1 gene can lead to the death of tumor cells, significantly improving disease prognosis. Additionally, MCL1 is involved in c-Myc-driven leukemogenesis, indicating that MCL1 is central to the survival of leukemia cells.
