Target Information
Diamine oxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of primary amines into their corresponding aldehydes, releasing hydrogen peroxide and ammonia in the process. Its preferred substrates in vitro are the diamines histamine and 1-methylhistamine, suggesting a potential role in allergic and immune responses. DAO is a secretory protein found in the cytoplasm of mouse epithelial intestinal mucosa and serves as an important indicator of the intestinal mucosal barrier. When the intestinal mucosa is damaged, DAO is released into the intestine and bloodstream, leading to elevated DAO levels in the blood, which indicate changes in intestinal permeability. Furthermore, DAO activity is closely linked to the maturity and integrity of the intestinal mucosa, and its plasma level can be used as a biomarker to evaluate the integrity of the intestinal mucosa.
