Mouse Galectin 12 (GAL12) ELISA Kit-Sandwich

Galectin-12 binds to lactose and may play a role in the apoptosis of adipocytes. Primarily found on the surface of lipid droplets within adipocytes, Galectin-12 serves as an intrinsic negative regulator of lipolysis. It achieves this by inhibiting the elevation of cAMP levels, thus regulating the lipolysis protein kinase A (PKA) signaling pathway and subsequently suppressing the lipolysis process. In the absence of Galectin-12, the lipolysis rate in mouse adipocytes significantly increases, leading to reduced fat content and enhanced insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. Mice lacking Galectin-12 demonstrate higher mitochondrial respiration rates and lower fat mass, coupled with improved insulin sensitivity. This suggests that Galectin-12 may influence energy balance and metabolic health by modulating the metabolic activity of adipocytes.
