Short-wave-sensitive opsin 1 is encoded by the OPN1SW gene in bovine. It is also known as SWS1 opsin. It is a protein found in the retina of the eye that is involved in color vision. It is responsible for detecting short-wavelength light, allowing us to perceive blues and violets. Mutations in this opsin can lead to color vision deficiencies or impairments.
