Target Information
Bovine Non-Histone Chromosomal Protein HMG-17 is encoded by the HMGN2 gene in cattle. HMGN2 belongs to the high mobility group (HMG) protein family. These proteins are relatively low molecular weight components found in chromatin. HMGN2 specifically interacts with the inner side of nucleosomal DNA, altering the interaction between DNA and the histone octamer. HMGN2 probably plays a role in the modification of chromatin, which subsequently becomes transcriptionally permissive.
