Target Information

Alpha-endosulfine is a protein phosphatase inhibitor that specifically targets protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) during mitosis. Phosphorylated at Ser-67 during mitosis, it selectively binds to PPP2R2D (PR55-delta) and inhibits its activity, leading to PP2A inactivation. This is crucial for maintaining high cyclin-B1-CDK1 activity during the M phase. In mice, Alpha-endosulfine (ENSA) primarily regulates cell division and meiosis, playing a significant role in the meiotic maturation of oocytes. ENSA governs the transition of oocytes from the first meiotic prophase (prophase I) to the second meiotic phase (M-phase) by inhibiting PP2A activity. This regulatory process ensures the proper progression of meiosis and prevents aneuploidy.
