C-X-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 8 (CXCL8), also known as interleukin-8 (IL-8), is a protein encoded by the goat gene CXCL8. CXCL8 is a major mediator of the inflammatory response. It is secreted by various cell types, including mononuclear macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils, T lymphocytes, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts. It is a member of the chemokines, a large family of structurally related proteins that play a central role in the development and deployment of the immune system.
