Target Information

Rat Insulin Receptor Substrate 2 (IRS2) is an essential cytoplasmic adaptor protein that links activated insulin and IGF-1 receptors to downstream signaling cascades. Phosphorylated on multiple tyrosine residues, IRS2 recruits and activates PI3K and other effectors, thereby regulating glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis, β-cell survival, and lipid metabolism. It is highly expressed in liver, skeletal muscle, pancreatic islets, and brain, serving as a critical node in metabolic control. Loss or mutation of IRS2 disrupts insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis, making it a key target for studies of diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and growth regulation.
