Target Information

Bovine aspartate aminotransferase (AST, GOT) is a 45-kDa dimeric enzyme ubiquitously expressed in bovine tissues-with exceptionally high levels in liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and kidney. It catalyzes the reversible transamination between aspartate and α-ketoglutarate, playing a central role in amino acid metabolism and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. As a cytosolic and mitochondrial enzyme, it maintains cellular nitrogen balance and energy homeostasis. Due to its tissue-specific abundance, it serves as a key biomarker for bovine tissue injury (e.g., hepatopathy, myopathy). As a critical metabolic enzyme and veterinary diagnostic marker, bovine AST is a target for studying bovine metabolic physiology, tissue damage mechanisms, and livestock health monitoring.
