Target Information

Mouse GRIA3 encodes the 894-residue AMPA-preferring glutamate receptor subunit GluA3. The ectodomain assembles into clamshell-like binding pockets that gate sodium flux upon glutamate occupancy. A unique 12-amino-acid insertion within the N-terminal tail, absent in rat or human orthologs, creates an exposed surface loop that remains accessible after tetramer assembly. Antibodies binding this segment lock the receptor in a closed conformation, silencing excitatory currents in cortical and hippocampal neurons without cross-reacting with GluA1, GluA2 or GluA4 subunits.
