Target Information
Mouse caspase-7 is a 34 kDa executioner cysteine protease that targets and cleaves DEVD-motif-containing substrates during apoptosis. It exists as an inactive pro-enzyme and is activated by upstream caspases-8 or -9, forming a homodimer that processes structural and repair proteins, leading to cellular dismantling. Its conserved catalytic loop presents a unique, species-restricted epitope ideal for antibody generation; anti-caspase-7 immunoreagents detect both pro-enzyme and active fragments in whole-cell lysates, fixed sections and immunoprecipitates without cross-reacting with other caspases, providing a precise read-out of intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic pathways.
