Target Information
Mouse mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a 31-kDa calcium-dependent collectin predominantly produced by mouse hepatocytes and secreted into plasma, with low-level expression in mucosal tissues (e.g., lung, intestinal epithelium). It forms multimeric complexes that specifically recognize mannose, fucose, and N-acetylglucosamine residues on microbial surfaces (bacteria, viruses, fungi). This binding activates the lectin complement pathway via MBL-associated serine proteases (MASPs), mediating opsonization, pathogen lysis, and recruitment of immune cells-critical for early innate immune defense. It also modulates adaptive immunity by enhancing antigen presentation. Essential for murine host defense against opportunistic infections, its deficiency impairs microbial clearance. As a key innate immune sensor, mouse MBL is a critical target for studying complement biology, infectious diseases, and immune deficiency models.
