Specifications
Target Information
Mouse Utrophin is a 395 kDa cytoskeletal protein that mirrors dystrophin's function, linking F-actin to the extracellular matrix via α-dystroglycan and β-dystroglycan. Expressed at neuromuscular and myotendinous junctions, it stabilizes the sarcolemma during contraction and clustering of acetylcholine receptors. In dystrophin-deficient muscle, utrophin is up-regulated and partially compensates for mechanical weakness. As a key regulator of membrane stability and a surrogate for dystrophin, utrophin is an important target for studies of muscular dystrophy, synapse formation, and therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing its expression.
