Mouse interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a 14 kDa four-helix cytokine that engages the IL-4Rα/common-γ receptor on B cells, Th2 lymphocytes and macrophages, triggering STAT6 phosphorylation to promote IgE class-switching and alternative activation. Its exposed receptor-contact loop presents a unique, species-restricted epitope ideal for antibody generation; anti-IL-4 immunoreagents quantify both secreted and intracellular protein in serum, supernatants and fixed sections without cross-reacting with IL-13, providing a precise read-out of Th2 immunity.
