Target Information

Mouse Asparagine Synthetase (ASNS) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of aspartate and glutamine to asparagine and glutamate, using ammonia as a nitrogen source. It is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in pancreas, brain, and testis, and is essential for protein and nucleotide synthesis. ASNS activity is up-regulated by amino-acid deprivation and endoplasmic-reticulum stress, supporting cell survival under nutrient limitation. As a key regulator of asparagine homeostasis, ASNS is an important target for studies of metabolic stress, amino-acid metabolism, and therapeutic resistance.
