Target Information

Mouse crystallin beta A1 (CRYBA1) is a 23 kDa β-sheet lens protein whose N-terminal extension and four Greek-key motifs assemble into stable oligomers, maintaining ocular transparency through chaperone-like activity. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 85-98) between Greek keys 2 and 3 folds into a β-hairpin unique among mouse β-crystallins, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after denaturation and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native CRYBA1 in lens cortical fibers, retinal ganglion cells, and brainstem, delivering crisp cytoplasmic staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to CRYBA2 or CRYBB1.
