Target Information

Pancreatic polypeptide prohormone, secreted by pancreatic cells, regulates pancreatic and gastrointestinal functions, likely through the G protein-coupled receptor NPY4R2. Regarding bone microarchitecture and activity, PYY-deficient mice display enhanced osteoblast activity and increased trabecular bone volume. In contrast, PYY-overexpressing mice exhibit heightened bone resorption, indicated by an increased number of osteoclasts on the bone surface. Additionally, gender differences in bone metabolism were observed; PYY deficiency affects bone mass more significantly in female mice, whereas PYY overexpression has a more pronounced impact on male mice.
