Target Information
Adiponectin, encoded by the Adipoq gene in mice, is a crucial adipokine that regulates fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity while exhibiting direct anti-diabetic, anti-atherogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It promotes AMPK phosphorylation and activation in the liver and skeletal muscles, thus increasing glucose utilization and fatty acid combustion. The functions of Adipoq in mice involve various aspects of energy metabolism regulation, insulin sensitivity enhancement, pregnancy adaptation, inflammation suppression, bone metabolism regulation, and cold environment adaptation. Additionally, adiponectin counteracts TNF-alpha by downregulating its expression in various tissues, including the liver and macrophages, and by opposing its effects.
