Target Information
Lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 2 (LPCAT2) demonstrates both acyltransferase and acetyltransferase activities, with its function being calcium-dependent. It facilitates the conversion of lysophosphatidylcholine (1-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine or LPC) into phosphatidylcholine (1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine or PC). As a lipid-modifying enzyme, LPCAT2 is responsible for producing phosphatidylcholine (LPC) and plays a role in the biosynthesis of platelet-activating factor (PAF). During inflammatory conditions, LPCAT2 enhances inflammatory responses by producing PAF. In the context of colorectal cancer (CRC), LPCAT2 influences ferroptosis through the PRMT1/SLC7A11 axis, thereby inhibiting tumor progression. In mouse models with diminished LPCAT2 expression, tumor growth is suppressed, and resistance to chemotherapy is markedly decreased.
