Target Information
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is a polypeptide tropic hormone that is produced and released by the anterior pituitary gland. Its primary role is to encourage the adrenal glands to secrete cortisol. Additionally, ACTH has been observed to be expressed and produced in the skin of fish. ACTH plays a key role in the stress response of fish, responding to stress by stimulating the secretion of cortisol from the adrenal cortex. Cortisol is an important stress hormone that regulates glycogenolysis, fat mobilization, and protein metabolism to provide energy for emergencies.
