Target Information
Heat shock protein beta-1 is a small heat shock protein that functions as a molecular chaperone, likely helping to keep denatured proteins in a folding-competent state. It contributes to stress resistance and the organization of actin. In mice, HSPB1 exhibits a wide range of biological functions, including neuroprotection, immunomodulation, inhibition of apoptosis, antioxidant effects, and protection against various pathological processes. HSPB1 demonstrates protective effects against neurodegenerative diseases in mouse models. For instance, in a mouse model of Niemann-Pick type C disease, overexpression of HSPB1 significantly reduced cell death and increased survival, underscoring its importance in neuronal cell protection.
